Modern Day Infection Control – Closing the Gap | Humpday Happy Hour™ with Lane Bourland

Send us Fan Mail Infection control has always been a cornerstone of dentistry—but are today's protocols enough? This week on Humpday Happy Hour™, we're joined by Lane Bourland, Sales & Marketing Manager at MCS – MediClean & Shield. Having grown up in dentistry and managed one of the busiest pediatric dental practices in West Texas, Lane has experienced firsthand the challenges of maintaining consistent infection control in a fast-paced clinical environment. After navigating the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lane became passionate about rethinking traditional infection control protocols. Today, he works with practices across the country to help them move beyond assumptions by focusing on three essential pillars: protection, verification, and documentation. In this episode, we explore the three critical gaps Lane believes exist in many dental practices: protection, verification, and documentation. He explains how long-lasting antimicrobial surface protection, rapid ATP and microbial testing, and CleanCommand™, MCS's compliance portal, work together to help practices move from assumption-based infection control to data-driven verification and real-time documentation. We also discuss why having measurable proof of infection control efforts has become increasingly important for regulatory compliance, patient confidence, and practice accountability. Whether you're looking to strengthen your practice's infection control protocols, better understand compliance, or simply stay ahead of the evolving standards in dentistry, this conversation offers valuable insights for every member of the dental team. Many patients assume their dental insurance works like medical insurance, only to discover coverage limitations, denied claims, waiting periods, and unexpected out-of-pocket costs. At the same time, dental practices are often left navigating complex insurance rules while trying to help patients receive the care they need. In this special episode of Humpday Happy Hour™, Dr. Chad Duplantis and Dr. Jeff Horowitz take an honest look at the realities of dental insurance. They discuss how dental benefits are structured, what "in-network" and "out-of-network" really mean, why treatment recommendations and insurance coverage don't always align, and how insurance decisions can impact both patients and providers. Whether you're trying to understand your benefits, make sense of a treatment estimate, or simply learn more about how dental insurance works behind the scenes, this episode will help you become a more informed healthcare consumer.
