Recently, David had a major surgery and guess what... even with complications... he found the time to take care of himself without missing a step! We really look forward to chatting with Dr. Yang and hearing about his passion in dentistry. About Dr. Yang: After completing his general practice residency at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2004, Dr. Yang joined True North Dentistry and is now the sole in the practice. Dr. Yang particularly enjoys solving complex dental issues and resolving debilitating dental pain for his patients. To assist in these matters, Dr. Yang has spent countless hours furthering his education in endodontics (root canals), dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery, TMD and complicated restorative cases (full mouth rehabilitation). Please join us! About Dr. Lee: Third-generation dentist in rural Edna, Tx Retired, after five decades of clinical dentistry and is now writing, teaching, ranching, and being with kids and grandkids. Deeply trained in CR dentistry with LD Pankey, Pete Dawson, and John Kois who all became personal friends. His first dental epiphany was at the Pankey Institute in 1977. His grandfather’s records from 1928 told a story of treating periodontal disease as an infection, cleaning the area (SRP), using an antimicrobial, teaching the patient how to keep it clean, and letting the body heal itself. Mac took the antimicrobial his grandfather used, changed the name, got FDA approval, and then sold it through Premier Dental. His second dental epiphany was seeing the mouth through a totally different set of eyes. This led to me becoming a Regent for the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics and to his Amazon book, The Life Robbing Pain of TMD; Why Me? He redid Joleen’s FMR to a more comfortable and beautiful position. About Dr. Marzban: Graduating from a highly accredited dental school is the minimum requirement necessary to provide quality cosmetic dental care. Dr. Marzban firmly believes that in order to provide her patients with the best possible treatments, it’s important to continue studying with the finest dentists in the country throughout her career. After graduating with honors from the Medical College of Virginia, she pursued a rigorous post-graduate training program at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), the leading school for cosmetic and neuromuscular dentistry in the nation. Upon completion of this program, she graduated as an LVI Fellow. The distinction of LVI Fellow is only awarded to a select few dentists who have demonstrated mastery of the entire LVI program, which includes a minimum of 278 hours of dental training in advanced aesthetics and neuromuscular science. In addition, Dr. Marzban has earned several other prestigious accolades as part of her continued post-graduate training: Board certified cosmetic dentist Fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry (a distinction held by only 10% of dentists nationwide) Certified by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine Certified Digital Smile Design (DSD) dentist Dr. Marzban’s work has been published, awarded and internationally recognized. Dr. Michael Gelb is a highly rated author and speaker on TMJ, sleep apnea, sleep disorders and chronic headache treatments. After graduating from Columbia University with a DDS degree, he received his MS degree at SUNY Buffalo in Neuromuscular Research. Dr.Gelb went on to become Clinical Professor at NYU where he directed the TMJ and Orofacial Pain program. Dr Gelb provides solutions for dentists to incorporate Airway and Sleep into their practices. He is also the cofounder of The Foundation of Airway Health and it’s Airway Summit. Dr.Gelb is the coauthor of GASP: Airway Health- The Hidden Path to Wellness and maintains a private practice in NYC and White Plains. He has pioneered AirwayCentric Medical and Dental education and recently developed the ACG Day Night Appliance System.

If you have any burning questions about occlusion, sleep, airway, or just fantastic restorative dentistry, this is for you. This week is a real treat and we are honored to have Dr. Jim McKee join us. Dr. McKee has maintained a private practice in Downers Grove, Illinois, since 1984 and has experience treating a wide variety of cases with a focus on predictable restorative dentistry. He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and former president of the American Equilibration Society. He has lectured both nationally and internationally for more than 25 years, directs several study clubs and serves as an instructor for both the Piper Education and Research Center as well as Spear Education. Dr. McKee graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 and earned his dental degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1984. All three DINKS had the honor of spending time with Dr. McKee at the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry!

AIRWAY PROSTHODONTICS with Dr. Jeff Rouse. About Dr. Rouse: Jeffrey S. Rouse, D.D.S. maintains a private practice in San Antonio, Texas and practiced with Drs. Gregg Kinzer and Frank Spear in Seattle, Washington. In 2017, he became a member of the Resident Faculty at Spear Education in Scottsdale, AZ. He was also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 2004-2019. After graduation from dental school in San Antonio, Dr Rouse completed a 2-year General Practice Residency at the University of Connecticut Health Science Center. He practiced family dentistry for twelve years before returning to school. Dr Rouse received his specialty certificate in Prosthodontics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2004. He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the American College of Prosthodontists, and past president of the Southwest Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Dr. Rouse has written numerous journal articles including a portion of the “Annual Review of Selected Dental Literature” published each summer in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. He has a textbook published in 2016 by Quintessence titled "Global" Diagnosis: A New Vision of Dental Diagnosis and Treatment Planning written with his teaching partner, Dr. Bill Robbins. Furthermore, he has contributed chapters on porcelain veneers and anterior ceramic crowns to three editions of a dental textbook. Dr. Rouse lectures nationally and internationally on a wide variety of topics ranging from dental esthetics to airway prosthodontics.

Dr. Pamela Marzban’s over 20-year dental career has been one of continual learning, both for herself and her team. Her extensive training in cosmetic dentistry, digital smile design, sleep and airway dentistry and physiologic TMJ rehabilitation has made her a craniofacial and smile design expert. She is an international speaker on dental technology, the business side of dentistry and communication. She is the published author of "Craniofacial Development: from infancy to adult " and writes for the Academy of General Dentistry and Washingtonian Magazine. Her clinical work with TMD rehabilitation and full mouth rehabilitation has been recognized and awarded internationally. Her complex aesthetic full mouth rehabilitation cases have been published in industry journals. She is in private practice, works in the Department of General Dentistry at VCU, serves as a VDA delegate and is on the Board of Regents of ICCMO. Dr. Mac Lee Third-generation dentist in rural Edna, Tx. Retired, after five decades of clinical dentistry and is now writing, teaching, ranching, and being with kids and grandkids. Deeply trained in CR dentistry with LD Pankey, Pete Dawson, and John Kois who all became personal friends. His first dental epiphany was at the Pankey Institute in 1977. His grandfather’s records from 1928 told a story of treating periodontal disease as an infection, cleaning the area (SRP), using an antimicrobial, teaching the patient how to keep it clean, and letting the body heal itself. Mac took the antimicrobial his grandfather used, changed the name, got FDA approval, and then sold it through Premier Dental. That same philosophy led Mac to the father of non-surgical perio, Dr. Paul Keyes. They worked together on several programs. At the same time, then famous Dr. Earl Estepp traveled to Mac's office to watch the procedure and philosophy. It changed Earl's concept of clinical dentistry. He made sure that Dr. Lee got on the road and shared his knowledge. In 1990, he quit his perio seminars to be a co-founder of Dental Boot Camp, a seminar that changed the dental world in North America. That lasted for seven years. Pete Dawson became a semi-business partner of DBC. Dr. Dawson sent his lab man to Mac’s office to personally walk him through a full mouth reconstruction on Joleen Jackson (who sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of Pete’s Perfect Byte computer program). The case was beautiful but never comfortable; she was over-closed. After Dental Boot Camp, he and Joleen wrote “Nothin’ Personal Doc, But I Hate Dentists!” a dental educational book for the layperson. The book caught the eye of Dr. Mehmet Oz. Mac became a consultant and a guest for Oz’s Second Opinion series on The Discovery Channel and later on Oprah radio with Oz. He also consulted for Oz’s three YOU Health Books. Things quickly changed when the Dr. Oz show was aired. The first time Mac told the producer Oz’s information was wrong, he got no response. On the second negative email to the producer, he was 100% shut off from anything Oz. Using all this experience, he and Joleen became in-house consultants to some of the most successful practices in North America. Their expertise was patient communication. Most of these successful offices called themselves Neuromuscular dentists. His second dental epiphany was seeing the mouth through a totally different set of eyes. This led to me becoming a Regent for the International College of Craniomandibular Orthopedics and to his Amazon book, The Life Robbing Pain of TMD; Why Me?

Send us Fan Mail Let's demystify TMD management and surgical intervention! Join Chad, JB, and Jeff with their guest, Dr. Brian Shah as he shares his journey and methodology in TMD management. Dr. Brian S. Shah was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio. He did his undergraduate studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he majored in microbiology and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1996. Dr. Shah then completed dental school at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he received the Arden K. Hegtvedt research scholarship in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Shah was lucky enough to do his research with the late Dr. Larry Peterson. During his time at Ohio State, he was also named a Hinman Scholar which was awarded in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Shah continued his studies and received his MD from Harvard Medical School in 2003. He did his General Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residencies in the Harvard system. This included rotations at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, The Beth Israel Hospital and The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. In 2008 Dr. Shah received his Board Certification by The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Shah was in academic practice at Yale and maintained a private practice in Chicago prior to joining Dr. Piper. The motivation to join and learn from Dr. Piper was born out of the goal to provide the highest level of care for patients with maxillofacial disharmony and TMJ disorders. The interplay between the joints, the bite and the face cannot be ignored and treating one without addressing the others can lead to sub optimal results. Dr. Shah underwent orthognathic surgery as a sophomore in college and has experienced firsthand how life changing properly executed surgery can be. Dr. Shah’s practice is devoted to TMJ surgery and facial reconstruction. By utilizing 3D CT imaging, intra-oral 3D scanning and CAD/CAM technology, Dr. Shah can diagnose and treat facial deformities with unparalleled accuracy. He invites the patient to be part of the treatment planning session which is essential to the co-discovery process. By educating patients on their condition and available treatment options, he has found anxiety can be minimized. Dr. Shah offers procedures such as custom facial implants, Botox and fillers to “touch-up” anything that cannot be accomplished with orthognathic surgery alone. Dr. Shah is teaching faculty for AO. The AO was founded on November 6, 1958 by a group of Swiss surgeons to champion revolutionary techniques of internal fixation for bone fractures. As faculty, Dr. Shah volunteers his time to teach surgical residents and practicing doctors the AO principles of trauma surgery. His professional affiliations include the American Medical Association, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Association of Cosmetic Surgery and the AO.
