Balancing Careers with NFL Ref Dr. Mike Morton on Humpday Happy Hour™

Remember that time Dr. Duplantis abandoned us to go on vacation in Italy?! That’s okay, we’re not *too* jealous, because we got to chat with a former classmate of Dr. Bells, former NFL player, turned dentist, turned referee, Dr. Mike Morton! Talk about a diverse dental career👀 Dr. Morton grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina where he played sports and had a pretty active childhood. Throughout his collegiate career at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, he played both football and baseball. He then went on to play in the NFL for 7 years, including on the St. Louis Rams Super Bowl team in 1999. Following his stint in the NFL, he went on to pursue a career in dentistry, attending UNC. He graduated and started practicing dentistry in 2007 in his hometown of Kannapolis, NC. Although he was working as a dentist, his love for sports persisted. He began officiating at the high school level in 2007, collegiate level in 2011, was hired to officiate in the ACC in 2015 and eventually the NFL in 2022. All of this while maintaining a dental practice! Outside of sports, Dr. Morton is married to his highschool sweetheart, Alana. Together they have 5 kids - Trey, Jesse, Katie, Laney and Molly - and a golden retriever, Sally. ✨Where you can find Dr. Morton: Dental practice website: https://www.mikemortondentistry.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-morton-7b05b635/ Timestamps: 2:03 - Intro 3:20 - Dental News 13:26 - Dr. Mike Morton introduction 17:30 - The road to a professional football career 22:58 - UNC football 33:30 - Super Bowl XXXIV 38:50 - How much can Dr. Morton bench? 39:50 - Pre-game prep 42:24 - Balancing multiple professions 46:33 - How to handle failures 53:50 - Closing 📺Make sure you subscribe to catch new episodes live every Wednesday at 8:30 EST! https://www.youtube.com/@dentistsintheknow 🌟Stay up to date on all the latest dental trends when you follow the DINKs: https://linktr.ee/dentistsintheknow
