Systemic Issues in Clinical Education for Dental Students with Dr. Dan Faber on Humpday Happy Hour™
We had the most enlightening discussion with Dr. Dan Faber about whether he thinks dental students get enough clinical experience while studying (spoiler: they do not). Dr. Daniel Faber is guided by a mission to impact access to high-quality oral healthcare for all, both US and globally. He’s attacking it a few different ways that may surprise you. After building his 2005 scratch practice focused on building rapport and collaboration with patients to provide comprehensive care, he sold the practice and pivoted his career to expand his impact on dentists and patients. He consulted with other dentists, even dabbled with a dental tech startup, and then pursued an MPH (Master's in Public Health). This led to the discovery of a passion and talent for teaching with a more practical, creative approach to D3 and D4s at dental school, where he confronted concerning behaviors and the administration's direction. He left the school recently after speaking up publicly about what he was seeing, which has since expanded the conversation further by what others are experiencing in their institutions. Dan continues to speak out and advocate for aspiring and current dental students, younger dentists, the profession and of course for the public, our patients. He still treats patients part time, is exploring more direct ways to continue to teach dentists and other opportunities to work and get involved with grassroots public health endeavors for dental care. ✨Connect with Dr. Dan Faber on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drdanielfaber/ Timestamps: 01:45 - NEWS ON THE GO™ 14:20 - Guest Intro 18:50 - Dental Education Journey 20:50 - Do Dental Students Get Enough Clinical Experience? 23:45 - Difference Between Public vs. Private Dental Schools 30:00 - The Value of Good Dental Education 36:55 - The Future of Dental Education 42:15 - Clinician vs. Technician 46:40 - Closing 📺Make sure you subscribe to catch live discussions with the DINKs every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. EST! https://www.youtube.com/@dentistsintheknow
