Send us Fan Mail Want to talk 'SIDE' gigs, better yet... how about 'SIDELINE' gigs as a Professional Football Referee in the NFL!!! Dr. Mike Morton has led a pretty illustrious career which all started at a young age. He grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina where he played sports and had a pretty active childhood. He attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on two scholarships. Throughout his collegiate career, he played both football and baseball. He then went on to play in the NFL for 7 years, including 1999 on the St. Louis Rams Super Bowl team. Following his stint in the NFL, he went on to pursue a career in dentistry, attending UNC. He graduated and started practicing in 2007 in his hometown of Kannapolis, NC. Although he was practicing dentistry, his love for sports persisted. He began officiating at the high school level in 2007, collegiate level in 2011, was hired to officiate in the ACC in 2015 and eventually the NFL in 2022! All of this while maintaining a dental practice! Outside of sports, Mike met his wife Alana in high school. They married in 1997 and have 5 kids: Trey, Jesse, Katie, Laney and Molly. They also have a golden retriever, Sally.

Get inspired about the future of our profession! Darcy Estefan is a soon-to-be graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. Post-graduation she plans to complete a GPR at The University of Nevada, Las Vegas before seeking work in a private practice setting. Darcy’s previous careers in Oil and Gas and Organization Development have given her a unique approach to her dental school experience. As a senior student, while serving as President of the UAB Esthetic Dentistry Club and President of the UAB student chapter of The American Association for Women Dentists, she began her CE journey. Darcy has been an active member of her local Seattle Study Club chapter, begun the Kois and imP.R.E.S. curriculums, attended the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Scientific Session, and utilizes Spear Online CE.

One of the first dentists in the world to incorporate lasers into general practice he has over 34 years of experience with CO2, Diode, Erbium, Nd.YAG and PBM wavelengths. He has authored over fifteen peer-reviewed papers and 7 laser textbooks. An international lecturer from New York to London to Sydney to Tokyo to Dubai to Bahrain to Saudi Arabia and everywhere in between, he has delivered close to 400 Laser Certification and Laser Tongue Tie Certification courses worldwide. He practices laser-assisted dentistry in New York City. He is the only dentist in the world to have the triad of awards: • Diplomate of the American Board of Laser Surgery • Fellow of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery • Master of the Academy of Laser Dentistry As well as being a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry His seminal textbook Principles and Practice of Laser Dentistry, now in its 3rd edition, has been the standard textbook on laser dentistry for over a decade – translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Chinese, with more translations pending. He is the co-author of Color Atlas of Tongue Tie and Lip Tie Laser Frenectomy – the first textbook in the world on the subject. He practices laser dentistry in New York City, where he also serves as Director of Laser Dentistry at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Queens.

Send us Fan Mail Ever been censored? Well, tune in tonight and see what motivated this dentist to speak out about what he had been seeing! Some would have run, and others would have been motivated. Dr. Faber is using his experience to impact our profession in many ways. Dr. Daniel Faber (Dan) is guided by a mission to impact access to HIGHER QUALITY oral healthcare for all here in the US and globally and he’s attacking it a few different ways that may surprise you. After building his 2005 scratch practice based on his focus on building rapport and collaboration with patients in providing actual comprehensive care, he sold the practice and pivoted his career to expand his impact on dentists and patients. He consulted with other dentists, even dabbled with a dental tech startup and then pursued a MPH (masters in public health). This led to discovering a passion and talent for teaching with a more practical and creative approach to D3 and D4s at dental school where he confronted concerning behaviors and direction of the administration. He left the school recently after speaking up publicly about what he was seeing which has since expanded the conversation more by what others are experiencing in their institutions. Dan continues to speak out and advocate for aspiring and current dental students, younger dentists, the profession and of course for the public, our patients. He still treats patients part time, is exploring more direct ways to continue to teach dentists and other opportunities to work and get involved with grassroots public health endeavors for dental care.

He graduated the College of Charleston in 1989 and the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry (Charleston, SC) in 1993. Before returning to the Abbeville / Greenwood area, he completed a hospital based general practice residency at Richland Memorial Hospital (now referred to as Palmetto Health Richland Hospital) in Columbia, SC. Upon returning home, Dr. Griffin acquired the dental practice of retiring dentist Dr. Edward “Pete” Petit and has practiced for the last 28 years in Greenwood, SC. He is involved with numerous leadership roles in dental organizations on the local, state and national levels which include the South Carolina Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of Operative Dentistry and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. On the local level his charitable endeavors include programs such as the Greater Greenwood United Ministries, Untied Christian Ministries of Abbeville County, Healthy Learners, and the South Carolina Dental Association Dental Access Days. International dental mission experience includes the 2010 Medical Dental Mission Team to Haiti from Main Street United Methodist Church in Abbeville, SC and most recently the 2020 Christian Dental Society dental mission team to Santiago, Dominican Republic. His wife of 28 years is Kim McCurry Griffin and they have two sons Taylor (age 23) and Tucker (age 21).

As President of the Academy of General Dentistry and a member of the AGD Foundation board, we talk about the important of oral cancer screenings, organized dentistry and how the foundation is helping to improve access to care for oral screenings all over the country. About Dr. Guter: Dr. Guter graduated in 1989 from Ohio State University and went on to complete an Advanced General Dentistry residency. He continually refines his expertise in dentistry having enrolled in courses for 9 years at the prestigious Pankey Institute along with taking close to 100 hours of continuing education every year. He is the continuing education chairman for the Ohio Academy of General Dentistry and is involved in presenting two courses per year for their Mastership program. Dr. Guter is an active member in the dental field and belongs to the American Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Rehwinkel Dental Society, American Orthodontic Society, Ohio Dental Association, and Academy of General Dentistry. He serves as a distinguished leader in various dental organizations. He has also received honorary fellowships in dental associations and is dedicated to maintaining the highest dental standards. Dr. Guter and his wife, Kathy, have three children: Brent, Austin, and Madison. When he is not pursuing dentistry, Dr. Guter enjoys crossword puzzles, motorcycles, and golfing. Dr. Guter has practiced general dentistry in Circleville since 1990.

He is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and former president of the American Equilibration Society. He has lectured both nationally and internationally for more than 25 years, directs several study clubs and serves as an instructor for both the Piper Education and Research Center as well as Spear Education. DINKS with Matt Burton, DDS and Founder of VursaWedge
Send us Fan Mail Have you ever been frustrated with a product and said "Hey, I can do this better?" I think we all have and have often wondered how we can make that change. Well Dr. Matt Burton decided to take action on those thoughts. Dr. Matthew Burton, DDS has worked as an established dental practitioner in Illinois since 2008. Like most dentists, his schedule was filled with one of the most common procedures: the Class II composite restoration. After several years in his practice working on hundreds of fillings, Dr. Burton became frustrated with the available Class II matrix systems. He tried nearly every system, but none of them provided the efficiency and consistent results he was seeking. He found that the major difficulty lies in properly placing and wedging the matrix bands. If not performed correctly, it cost him valuable time, required unnecessary & timely post polymerization adjustments, and ultimately led to a lack of confidence in the procedure. Furthermore, Dr. Burton has discovered that different components from different matrix systems, when combined, produce consistently outstanding results. Dr. Burton began contemplating new ideas to make his chair-side time more efficient. He discovered that he could simplify & streamline the Class II restoration process by simply re-designing the wedge to "split" down the middle. The flexible Split Wedge allows for proper gingival seal, perfect matrix contour, while greatly minimizing flash. He ultimately realized that the design of this wedge played a critical role in achieving excellent outcomes in an incredibly efficient way. With no other products like it on the market, Dr. Burton knew there would be demand for his matrix systems. In 2017, he formed Burton Dental Innovations to begin marketing and selling his products to other dentists who face the same challenges in their own practices. Dr. Burton enjoys testing new and forward thinking technology, and embraces these advancements as crucial to office efficiency and case outcome. He has realized the importance of digital scanning and how software integration platforms are a key element to utilizing scan data. Dr. Burton began teaching CE courses to dentists around the world in July 2020 and is enthusiastic to continue to share what he has learned and how it has helped shape a high level of care in his office.
