Dr. Katherine Queck is the founder of The Hospital for Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery, the Vet Education Center and the Center of Excellence. The flagship hospital is the only dental referral center located in Matthews, North Carolina with an additional location in suburban Charleston, South Carolina. As a 1986 graduate of Iowa State University, Dr. Queck pursued her passion for dentistry and became a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD). In 1992, she relocated to Charlotte to establish a progressive dental clinic and became a national thought leader for her contributions in dentistry to the broader veterinary community. Dr. Queck is highly respected by her colleagues and was named Veterinarian of the Year by the NCVMA, Fellow of the Year by the Academy and served as Secretary of the AVD. As a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC), Dr. Queck is a board-certified specialist and a preferred service provider with over 35 years of experience in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. She is committed to serve her clients, train dental residents and offer CE courses to general veterinarians and their staff. Dr. David Manzanares, First VP of ADA with the DINKS

We were very appreciative that Dr. David Manzanares was willing to sit down with us to discuss all things organized dentistry. Dr. David J. Manzanares, a general dentist in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the First Vice President of the American Dental Association. Dr. Manzanares has been a member of the ADA since 2009. Dr. Manzanares served as member to the ADA Council on Communications, where he was also Chair of the Volunteer Engagement Program and the Council Self-Assessment Committee, as well as part of the Spokesperson Review Committee and the Integrated Marketing Workgroup. He is also a graduate of the ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership. Dr. Manzanares is involved with numerous other dental organizations, including the New Mexico Dental Association (NMDA), Albuquerque District Dental Society (ADDS) and Academy of General Dentistry. An engaged member of the NMDA, Dr. Manzanares previously served as Secretary-Treasurer from 2015 to 2022, chaired several committees and was the Albuquerque Representative of the NMDA Board of Trustees from 2013 to 2015. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the NMDA Foundation. Starting in 2020, he became part of the New Mexico Dental COVID- 19 Advisory Team. From 2009 to 2015, he was a delegate of the NMDA House of Delegates and continues to be on the NMDA Council on Government Affairs. His other duties include serving as Secretary-Treasurer of the Southwest District Dental Society from 2010 to 2011, and he has served as Advisor to the Leadership Board with the ADDS since 2015. Dr. Manzanares is a Fellow in both the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists and was awarded with both a Fellowship in 2015 and a Mastership in 2018 from the AGD. He is a graduate of both the Dawson Academy and the Piper Education and Research Center. Originally from Espanola, NM, Dr. Manzanares attended the University of New Mexico as a Regent’s Scholar, graduating in 2005. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in 2009. He has also served as the pre-dental advisor at New Mexico State University and was a faculty member at Dona Ana Community College, teaching radiology to dental hygiene students. Dr. Manzanares comes from a dental family; his father, Dr. Robert Manzanares, was president of the NMDA from 2010 to 2011 and his younger brother, Dr. Michael Manzanares, is also a dentist.

Dr. Brett Kessler - President Elect ADA with Dentists in the Know
Send us Fan Mail Dr. Brett Kessler, a dentist in Denver, Colo., is the new President-Elect of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Kessler has been an active volunteer leader and member of the ADA for 26 years. Since 2019, Dr. Kessler has represented the 14th District on the ADA Board of Trustees, and he has chaired several ADA committees, including the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Audit Committee and the Science and Research Institute, on which he is currently serving his second term. Dr. Kessler’s vast ADA leadership involvement also extends to the House of Delegates, the Dental Wellbeing Advisory Committee and the Council of Dental Benefit Programs, where he was Vice Chair. Additionally, he has served as a Board of Trustees Liaison to the Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention, Council of Communications and Council on Dental Practice. He was also awarded the Golden Apple award for “Outstanding Leadership in Mentoring” in 2010, which is the highest award bestowed from the ADA. Dr. Kessler is also involved in numerous other organizations, including the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society, the Colorado Prosthodontic Society, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the Colorado Dental Association Foundation, where he was a Founding Chair. He served as president of the Colorado Dental Association from 2014-2015, and prior to his term, he held a plethora of other leadership roles within the organization. Dr. Kessler graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry and completed his General Practice Residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He has a wide variety of practice modalities, including hospital setting, employee dentist, practice owner in a fee-for-service startup, chief dental officer at a Dental Support Organization and currently practices in a restorative Preferred Provider Organization. Dr. Kessler has been an educator at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and University of Michigan. A national wellness and leadership speaker, he is also a five-time Ironman triathlete, ultra-marathoner and avid trail runner. In addition to his work as a clinician, he has been involved with volunteer organizations which promote substance abuse advocacy and wellbeing. What a super cool interview with an incredible cool person! Dr. Tanya Sue Maestas was born and raised in El Paso, TX. She attended dental school at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. She graduated in 2018 and completed an AEGD residency in 2019. During dental school, she became involved in organized dentistry and served in various leadership roles including President of the American Student Dental Association. After graduating, she returned to El Paso and practices outside of the city at La Clinica de Familia (FQHC) where she serves as a Dental Director for the site. She also serves as a part-time faculty member at the Woody L Hunt School of Dental Medicine. She was recently named the Texas New Dentist of the Year. She has continued her involvement in organized dentistry by serving in numerous roles with organizations including the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Hispanic Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Texas Academy of General Dentistry, and the El Paso District Dental Society. She is an alumnus of the American Dental Association Institute for Diversity in Leadership and was recognized as one of the American Dental Association 10 under 10 recipients & one of Incisal Edge 40 under 40 dentists. She is passionate in providing care to underserved communities and seeks to help close the gap in barriers to care. He graduated the College of Charleston in 1989 and the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry (Charleston, SC) in 1993. Before returning to the Abbeville / Greenwood area, he completed a hospital based general practice residency at Richland Memorial Hospital (now referred to as Palmetto Health Richland Hospital) in Columbia, SC. Upon returning home, Dr. Griffin acquired the dental practice of retiring dentist Dr. Edward “Pete” Petit and has practiced for the last 28 years in Greenwood, SC. He is involved with numerous leadership roles in dental organizations on the local, state and national levels which include the South Carolina Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of Operative Dentistry and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. On the local level his charitable endeavors include programs such as the Greater Greenwood United Ministries, Untied Christian Ministries of Abbeville County, Healthy Learners, and the South Carolina Dental Association Dental Access Days. Dr. Harrison graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry, completed a General Practice Residency at St John’s Mercy Medical Center in his hometown of St Louis, MO, and has achieved Mastership Certification in laser assisted dentistry from the World Clinical Laser Institute. For three decades, Dr. Harrison has served the dental profession as a Key Opinion Leader, Educator, Professional Speaker, Consultant, and Clinician. He is the Founder of Colorado Laser Dentistry and Sleeping Giant Sleep Solutions and retired from clinical practice in 2020 to step into his various roles at Sleep Group Solutions. Linda Miles, CSP (Certified Professional Speaker); is Founder of Linda Miles and Associates, an INC 500 dental management consulting company in 1987. She is also the Founder of the Speaking Consulting Network (1997). SCN has helped hundreds of other dental speakers and consultants start or enhance their own speaking/consulting businesses. In 2013, she Co-Founded with Robin Morrison, Oral Cancer Cause, a 501 nonprofit that financially assists oral cancer patients during their diagnosis and medical treatment as well as creating awareness to the general public about oral cancer. She currently serves as an advisor to DIY Dental Consulting and Mentors and Masters. Even though Linda retired to SW FL in 2018, she still stays connected to the profession she loves through the thousands of dentists and teams she has met over her career. Her strength lies in the fact she is a forever learner, keeping abreast of changes in dentistry that will affect the next generation. Linda is a firm believer that dentistry should be fun; exciting and rewarding for patients, dentists and teams. With better communication, leadership at all levels, efficient systems and a desire to be the best, the sky’s the limit.
